LA is in full swing for Awards Season when the best in entertainment get kudos from their peers and the general public gets an opportunity to check out the celebs in person, whether at the ceremonies or on the red carpet.
'Awards Season’ spans from the Emmy Awards in Autumn to the Oscars – this year to be held on the 24th February. 2013 sees the 85th anniversary of the Oscars – which it has been announced will feature a televised tribute to the 007 franchise as the longest-running motion picture franchise in history.
The Awards Season schedule for 2013 is as follows:
• People’s Choice Awards, 9th January – held at the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live. True to its name, the ceremony also sells tickets to the public on Ticketmaster with tickets ranging from $60 - $170
• Golden Globe Awards, 13th January – in true Hollywood fashion, the Golden Globes are an invitation-only event, though a lucky few who want an up-close-and-personal view of those making their grand entrances can grab a seat in the bleachers outside the Beverly Hilton if they book a room at the hotel. The Golden Globes are often a pretty good indicator of how the Oscar race will shape up. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will co-host this year.
• Screen Actors Guild Awards, 27th January – more than a dozen awards to television and film performers will be given out during these awards which have been in existence since 1985. Seat-filler opportunities are available at www.seatfiller.com and there is an auction for bleacher tickets that takes place from 3rd – 13th January
• Grammy Awards, 10th February – The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will give music junkies and awards aficionados alike something to sing about. A stone’s throw away is the Grammy Museum which provides additional opportunities for music fans to satiate their recording-history cravings. www.grammy.org< /a>
• Film Independent Spirit Awards, 23rd February – LA may have a long history of award ceremonies, but there’s nothing traditional about the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which takes place under a rather lavish tent at Santa Monica Beach, hosting entertainment-industry members and sponsors. www.filmindependent.org
• Academy Awards, 24th February – The Academy Awards have reigned as the awards-show supreme since the first Oscars ceremony was held at the Hollywood Roosevelt in 1929. Those wanting to soak up the glamour – the show itself is invitation-only – can grab a bleacher seat right on Hollywood Boulevard and witness the stars before they walk into the Dolby (formerly Kodak) Theatre; go to www.oscars.org/insider/ and sign up for the lottery for these between September and mid-November each year. Seth MacFarlane will host this year’s ceremony. www.oscars.org
